Mark your calendar for the 2018 Annual Canton Rotary Oktoberfest -  the one and only classic Oktoberfest in the City of Canton! This unique event will take place on Thursday, September 20, 2018, in the heart of downtown Canton.
 
Not only is the Canton Rotary Oktoberfest a fantastically FUN event, but all net proceeds go to support the amazing things that Canton Rotary does for our community and throughout the world.
 
Sponsorship's are available at various levels, including a new $500 "Canton Rotarian One-Time Ask" sponsorship, for which you will receive: 2 complimentary event tickets; a listing on all event signage as a sponsor; a listing on the Canton Rotary website and social media sites. You will also get credit for a $100 commitment for 2018 - 19 President - Elect's Canton Rotary Charitable Fund campaign, a $100 credit to the Rotary Foundation/Paul Harris fellowship, and $300 toward the 2018 annual golf outing (which includes one foursome).

WEEKLY MEETING NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
At the August 10, 2018 meeting, President Michelle Mullaly welcomed the 63 members and 2 guests to the meeting.
 
Past President Denny Fulmer provided the Invocation.
 
The winner of the 50/50 drawing, worth $53.00, was Rotarian Lynn Hamilton.
 
President Elect Mark Rojek welcomed the following guests to the meeting: William Kreuzes (Rotarian-Seabrook, Texas); Dan McMasters (Rotarian-Massillon).
 
The "Happy News" was then provided by the following:
  • Mark Clendenin - happy about his recent visit to the Holden Arboretum facility in Cleveland;
  •   -  also happy about his son Logan's new job;
  •  
  • PDG/PP Dave Ewing - provided info about the Ohio Lincoln Highway 'Buy-Way' garage sales in Canton & Massillon, as well as the Military Family Center festival that evening;
  •  
  • PP Craig Young - happy about the Military Family Center event that night;
  •  
  • Bruce Schorsten - he recognized the outstanding Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival, and was happy our speaker, Kirk Schuring, was in attendance;
  •  
  • PP Dan Matthews - happy for our New Member committee members and especially the hard work of Committee Chair (and recent New Member) Rich Devers;
  •  
  • PP Rick Taylor - happy for the Browns pre-season victory and the Indians two-game 'walk-off' win streak;
  •  
  • PP Denny Fulmer - happy for the new Browns season and the apparent quality of their draft picks;
  •  
  • Mike Abbott - happy that his wife, Barbara, was named "Entrepreneur of the Month" for her Canton Food Tours business;
  •  
  • Bill Sparks - happy to celebrate his 40th wedding anniversary with his wife, Susan;
  •  
  • Bob Matthews - happy to inform everyone of the WWII airplanes preserved and flown by the Collings Foundation visiting the MAPS Museum last weekend, .
Golf Chairman Bill Liber reminded everyone about next week's Annual Golf Outing. If you are playing that day, please arrive at the golf course by 8:15 AM for the 9 AM shotgun start. If you are interested in playing, but have not indicated to the office that you have a foursome or need paired up with a group, please let the office know ASAP.
 
PP Rick Taylor asked that anyone who is interested in a possible trip to the Akron Civic Theatre Thursday October 25th to see "Rocktopia" to let him know. Rick stated not only would this be a great show combining classical music and classic rock, but also Canton Rotarian Frank Fleischer's son, Randall, is a co-creator and the conductor.
 
PP Rick then introduced the speaker, State Representative Kirk Schuring, who updated the members on Ohio's medical marijuana law.
 
President Michelle presented the speaker with a Stark County library book to be donated in his name. She then made the following announcements to conclude the meeting:
  • there will be NO MEETING next Friday 8/17/18
  • There was a golf committee meeting immediately following conclusion of the meeting;
  • Members were encouraged to attend the New Member project, the Military Family Center Festival, from 4-9 pm that day
  • If you are planning to play golf get your registration in ASAP
The following Rotarian turned in a makeup during Friday's meeting: Phil Lattavo (Massillon).
 
The following will receive a makeup for attending the golf committee meeting on Friday, August 10, 2018: Bill Liber, Shawn Dougherty, Julia Dick, Drew Pelger, Ryan Parkinson, Paul White, Dan Matthews, Bruce Schorsten and Dave Schrade.
