MEETING THIS WEEK: FRIDAY AT CHRIST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 11:45
OUR MEETING THIS WEEK IS FRIDAY @ 11:45 AM

CHRIST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

PLEASE JOIN US!
JIM GRESH, ECOLOGIST & CO-OWNER, BOONE ROAD ENTERPRISES

Jim Gresh is an ecologist who reached his current position through an unusual career path. As manager, conservation ecologist, and co-owner of Boone Road Enterprises, he now runs a timber investment company in Ohio whose primary goals are conservation and stewardship of woodland ecosystems.

Before this ecology role, Jim leveraged an engineering degree from Carnegie-Mellon University and a master's degree in business from Harvard University for his 33-year corporate career in finance, marketing, strategy, and general management at The Timken Company. During that career, Jim had extensive international responsibilities including relocations to England and China. He retired from TimkenSteel in 2015 as executive vice president of strategy and marketing. He then served as executive director of the Timken Foundation until 2018.

Today, Jim’s timberland investment company follows a European forest management approach called Close-to-Nature Forestry which permanently protects forest canopies for improved ecosystem health. To help him adapt this approach to US ecosystems, Jim pursued a degree in conservation ecology from Malone University and now conducts ongoing forestry research in the company’s forests located across southeastern Ohio. In the last two years, Jim’s team has published two ecological forestry papers in European scientific journals.

Throughout his career, Jim has also dedicated his time and talents to non-profit organizations. He has served on many non-profit boards including in China as well as here in Canton. Today, he serves on the board of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District and is an emeritus board member of the Stark Education Partnership.

Jim and his wife, Heidi, have four children ages 26-35. Heidi is a co-owner of Boone Road Enterprises and runs an artisan woodworking business which uses raw materials from their ecological timber harvests.

ANOTHER GREAT WEDNESDAY EVENING MEETING LAST WEEK!
We had another excellent Wednesday evening meeting last week on February 22, 2023 at the 330 Bar & Grill at the recently renovated Doubletree Downtown.

After taking some time to relax and converse with our fellow Rotarians, we adjourned to a private room, where our guest from Windsor, Connecticut, filled us in on his Rotary Club in that city. Charlie is a Canton native and GlenOak grad, who returns often to visit his family.

Following Charlie's discussion, most Canton Rotarians stuck around to participate in our monthly Board of Trustees meeting, which provided an opportunity for some great discussion on issues effecting our club. Attendees also shared some appetizers while we convened.

We encourage you all to attend our Wednesday evening meetings on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 5 to 6 PM. Guests, family, friends and interested parties are encouraged to attend. These meetings are currently scheduled to take place at the Conestoga Grill on 2nd Street in the Bliss/Onesto building.

Bonus: If we raise $20,000, Past Presidents Mark Clendenin and Drew Pelger have volunteered to take the Polar Bear Plunge in February!

Let’s work together to make it happen! You can fill out and return this form or send in your pledge to Paul (paul@hervey.co, 330-704-2935).

JUNE 16TH & 17TH, DISTRICT 6650 CONFERENCE! MARK YOUR CALENDAR!

As the PROUD home club of our outstanding District Governor, Michelle Charles, we will be hosting this year's District 6650 Annual Conference.

Dates are Friday June 16th & Saturday June 17th.

Plans are being made now, so not all deets are known yet, but a STELLAR committee is starting to burn their creative brain cells to make this a GREAT conference, with an emphasis on fellowship, fun, and honoring the accomplishments of the clubs and Rotarians in our district!

Tentative plan is to have a social & fun event on Friday evening, we hope downtown, maybe at Centennial Plaza.
(It'll look warmer in June!)

Saturday's conference will be at the Embassy Suites, 7883 Freedom Ave. NW, North Canton, OH 44720 (no downtown Canton venues were available).

So please make plans to join us for this conference and help honor District Governor Michelle!

(PS - We will need volunteers to help with running the conference - set-up, registration, check-in, hospitality, cat-herding, tear-down, etc. Please consider helping!)

THIS WEEK'S LEXOPHILE JOKES!
This week's lexophile jokes:

With her marriage, she got a new name and a dress.

Police were summoned to a daycare center where a three-year-old was resisting a rest.

A bicycle can’t stand alone, it’s just two tired.

The guy who fell onto an upholstery machine last week is now fully recovered.
