At the weekly meeting on Friday, April 27, 2018, President Amanda Tietze welcomed the 55 members and 14 guests to the meeting.Rotarian Bob Myers gave the Invocation.
Secretary Suzette Matthews then welcomed the following guests to the meeting: Mark Samolczyk (speaker); Ann Jones, Sally Pumphrey, Lori DeWees, John DeWees IV, Philip Kopatz, Gloria Fettman, Barbara Ferne, Amber Moore, Mary Schumacher, Mary Becker (guests of the Club); Maureen Ater (guest of Anne Richards); Kristina Belliveau (guest of Max Barton); Penni Ewing (guest of PDG/PP Dave Ewing).
The Rotofact was provided by Rotarian Bruce Hale.
The "Happy News" was provided by the following:
- Lynn Hamilton - in recognition of the Canton Repository article on the closing of The Wheel, a local 'watering hole' in Downtown Canton. Lynn jokingly asked the Rotary Cub to consider buying it?!
- PP Virginia Neutzling - in honor of her son who was chosen as Head of Security for Safelite;
- Jon Adland - in celebration of his new grandson, Liam Ezra. Congratulations Jon!!
- PP Denny Fulmer - in recognition of Anne Richards being featured on the front page of the Canton Repository for the grand opening of the new Goodwill Store in North Canton (*See story above). Denny also recognized all of the Browns' fans and the high hopes for our new quarterback.
Suzette reminded everyone about the Hall of Fame Marathon taking place this weekend and wished PP Denny Fulmer (half marathon) and Rotarian Raquel Raderchak (relay) best of luck. **Suzette herself would be running the full marathon.
President Amanda introduced some very special individuals to the meeting, the spouses and daughter of fellow Rotarians who have passed on. (*See story above).
Rotarian Drew Pelger, with the able assistance of Administrative Secretary, Lauri Coy, did the first "Uneventful" Raffle drawing. (*See story above).
Vice President Mark Rojek introduced speaker and former Canton Rotarian, Mark Samolczyk. Mark is the President and CEO of Stark Community Foundation who spoke on "Strengthening Stark County".
President Amanda concluded the meeting with the following announcements:
- next week's speaker will be Mayor Thomas Bernabei with the "State of the City Address"; also in attendance will be the Rotary Scouts;
- don't forget to purchase Unevent Raffle tickets for your chance to win some great prizes;
- the District Conference will take place on May 10-11;
- there was a "New Member Project"Committee meeting immediately following the meeting.
