At our weekly meeting last Friday May 13, 2022, President Mark welcomed 30 Canton Rotarians on site and on Zoom. We were treated to a very good presentation by JoAnn Breedlove, Executive Director of the Stark Tusc Workforce Development Board, who told us about services that they offer for individuals looking for work or trying to improve their job situation, as well as employers in our community.

Secretary Paula provided these tidbits:

On this Day in History:

1846 – The U.S. declared war on Mexico. Tensions between Mexico and the United States stemming from the U.S. annexation of Texas (1845), led the U.S. Congress to overwhelmingly approve a declaration of war against Mexico.

1934 – A great dustbowl storm sweeps across U.S. prairies. Approximately 7,000 people died from “dust pneumonia” and 250,000 fled the Plains because of it.

1970 – The Beatles movie, "Let it Be", premiers.

1989 - Approximately 2,000 students began a hunger strike in Tiananmen Square, China.

2021 – The CDC stated people who were fully vaccinated against COVID-19 could stop wearing masks. (And here we are still arguing about this a year later.)

Fun Fact:

Food should be on peoples' minds Friday. It was Apple Pie Day, Hummus Day and Fruit Cocktail Day! (Editor's note: fruit cocktail day, really?)
