SHERRI MCKINNEY-FRANTZ FROM CHILDREN'S NETWORK OF STARK COUNTY TO SPEAK ON FRIDAY, JUNE 21ST
Sherri McKinney-Frantz has dedicated her career to working with Stark County children and families who have experienced significant trauma. A strong child advocate, Sherri has been leading the Children’s Network of Stark County since October of 2014. Sherri enjoys working as part of a team and specializes in cutting-edge program development and expansion.
 
She serves on several boards, volunteers in the community, enjoys mentoring others, and owns a small business in the Canton Arts District. A graduate of Leadership Stark County’s 22nd Class, she received her Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Cincinnati and earned her Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Malone University.  Sherri is also a licensed social worker in the State of Ohio.
 
She and her husband, Larry, reside in Canton. They have helped raise several children, including their daughter, Alex, who is a social worker in Athens, Ohio.

GOLF REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS THIS FRIDAY!!
Anyone interested in playing in the annual golf outing on June 28th, needs to have their registration information into the Rotary office no later than THIS Friday, June 21, 2019. We need to provide the Golf Course with a total number of participants so they can order the food for the event. ANNUAL "CANTON ROTARY FOUR PERSON SCRAMBLE" WILL TAKE PLACE ON  JUNE 28, 2019
The Rotary Club of Canton will host its annual golf outing at the Sanctuary Golf Club located at 2017 Applegrove Street N.W., North Canton, on Friday, June 28, 2019.
 
Co-Chairs Bill Liber and Brad Carpenter, along with the golf committee members, have been hard at work preparing for this year's event. Registration will start at 7:00 a.m. with a light breakfast available. Shotgun start will be at 9:00 a.m. The Four Person Scramble will be followed by a steak dinner in the pavilion. Following the dinner, prizes will be presented.
 
Get a hole in one on hole #6 as a participant in our Canton Rotary Golf Outing and you will win the lease of a 2019 Lincoln MKZ Sedan for two years, 21,000 total miles or a cash alternative of $10,000 to be spent toward the Liberty Vehicle of winner's choice. *Must be a licensed driver, minimum age 21 and able to provide adequate insurance coverage. Excess mileage and maintenance is the winner's responsibility. Only one shot at hole per golfer. No mulligans. The prize is courtesy of Liberty Ford Lincoln in Canton.
 
Once again Rotarian Ryan Parkinson and his employer, ProTech Security, will offer a Home Security System with three free months of monitoring and app. This prize will be provided to the person who is closest to the pin on the par 3 hole number 9.
 
$500 GOLD Sponsor - will receive their company's name posted at a hole, golf, golf cart, light breakfast and steak dinner for their four-person team.
 
$100 HOLE Sponsor - will include your company name posted at a hole.
 
If you don't have a full foursome, don't fret! Individual golfers need only pay $75.00 and they will be paired with other golfers to make a foursome. Individual golfers will receive use of a golf cart, light breakfast and steak dinner.

CONTEST CHALLENGE FOR "HOLE SPONSORSHIP" IN THE CANTON ROTARY FOUR PERSON GOLF SCRAMBLE
Leading up to this year's Annual Four Person Golf Scramble scheduled for June 28, 2019 at the Sanctuary Golf Course, we will be having a contest for the Rotarian who can sell the most "Hole Sponsorships".
 
A hole sponsorship is $100 and your name or company name will be posted at a hole on the course.  The Rotarian selling the most Hole Sponsorships will receive an official 2019 Masters Golf Tournament hat, similar to the one pictured!

NEW MEMBER JENNIFER GEORGE INTRODUCED TO THE CLUB
During the June 14, 2019 meeting, Rotarian Stephanie Werren (sponsor) introduced the newest member of the Rotary Club of Canton, Jennifer George. 
 
Jennifer George is the Director of Children’s and Family Ministry at Christ Presbyterian Church in downtown Canton, where she’s worked since 2005. She has experience with volunteer recruitment and training, program and curriculum development, and event planning and marketing. She is a graduate of Leadership Stark County’s Signature Program. Jennie lives in Perry Township with her husband Patrick and her two children, Emma and Ryan.

ROTARIAN RON HAINES TO THROW FIRST PITCH AT RUBBERDUCKS GAME!
During the June 14th meeting, our guest speaker, Ken Babby, owner and CEO of the Akron RubberDucks, held a drawing for a RubberDucks prize. The winner of this drawing was Rotarian Ron Haines, who will receive 4 tickets to a game of his choice, a RubberDucks baseball cap, and the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at the game!
 
We will let you know what game Ron chooses, in case you wish to attend to show your support (and maybe take a video of his pitching form, in hopes of it going viral!)

WEEKLY MEETING NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
During the June 14, 2019 meeting, President Michelle Mullaly welcomed 52 members and 7 guests to the meeting. President Michelle asked everyone celebrating a June birthday to please stand and be recognized.
 
Past President Paul White gave the Invocation.
 
Rotarian Julia Dick had the winning 50/50 raffle ticket worth $43.00.
 
Rotarian Julia Dick filled in for a traveling Club Secretary Suzette Matthews. Julia welcomed the following guests to the meeting: Ken Babby (speaker); Sonia Bravo and Ian Wilkinson (guests of the speaker); Bill Smith (Canton South Rotarian); Sam Shaheen (guest of Ernie Schott); Zak Fettman (guest/son of Steve Fettman), Kevin Warren (guest of PP Dan Matthews). 
 
The "Happy News" was provided by the following:
  • Amy Mustafaga - Very thankful for the Rotary Exchange students. She recently spent six weeks in Europe enjoying wonderful visits with her former Exchange Students. She is very proud of the program and urges Canton Rotary to become a host Club again. 
  •  
  • President Elect Mark Rojek - Happy to return safely from the Rotary International Convention in Hamburg, Germany where he participated with 25,000 fellow Rotarians from 185 Countries. He was very proud to represent the Canton Rotary and be part of something very special. It reaffirmed his belief in the power of Rotary.
  •  
  • Bill Liber - reminded Rotarians of our annual golf outing in two weeks (June 28th). Please sign up by next Friday June 21st to play. Hole sponsorships are still available and the golf committee is still looking for door prizes. During this Friday's meeting, Bill will be awarding a 2019 Masters golf hat to the Rotarian who has brought in the most hole sponsorships.

  • PP Rick Taylor - echoed what Mark Rojek said about the RI Convention being a wonderful Rotary experience. He was also glad the Toronto Raptors won the NBA Championship.
  •  
  • PP Virginia Neutzling - very happy she just returned from a fantastic trip to Egypt, including a visit to the Nile River. Since returning from the over 100 degree weather conditions in Egypt, she has already had to use her electric blanket in Ohio!
  •  
  • Jon Adland - Happy to announce that at the end of June he will be retired. He and his wife love this area so much that they are planning to stay.

"Unevent" Raffle Committee Chairman Mark Clendenin did the first drawing of prizes. Rotarian Jim Molnar was the winner of 5 premium Italian wines and 2 entrance passes to the Italian American Festival wine tasting. Rotarian Don Peterson was the winner of the cooler stocked with beer and a 2019 family summer membership at the Hall of Fame Fitness Center.
 
President Michelle then introduced the speaker for the meeting, Ken Babby, owner and CEO of the Akron RubberDucks.
 
President Michelle concluded the meeting with the following announcements:
 
  • this week's speaker will be Sherri McKinney-Frantz from the Children's Network of Stark County;
  •  
  • deadline for golf registration is Friday, June 21st. Call the Rotary office and let Lauri know if you are playing. We need to turn in a count to the golf course so they can order food;
  •  
  • if you are interested in being a hole sponsor, please let the office know ASAP. We need to email Dr. Wraps on Monday, June 17th. They need to have time to prepare the signs for the event.
  •  
  • there is a brief golf committee meeting following the conclusion of this Rotary meeting.
