SARAH BILTZ FROM THE BUCKEYE COUNCIL WILL SPEAK ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7TH
TOPIC:  Scouting in Stark County.

Sarah Biltz will be presenting on the impact the Boy Scouts of America has in Stark County. Over 3,200 youth are involved in a Scouting program in Stark County. Through Scouts, youth are taught character development, positive social values, and citizenship skills to last a lifetime.

Sarah Biltz has spent most of her life in Ohio, growing up in Millersburg before she attended The Ohio State University. Sarah grew up in the Scouting program where both of her parents are longtime volunteers and she has three brothers who are all Eagle Scouts. In high school, Sarah also got involved in (at the time) one of Scouting’s only co-ed programs called Venturing. After Ohio State, Sarah started working for the Boy Scouts of America in Tuscarawas and Carroll counties before moving to the Stark County region of the Buckeye Council, Boy Scouts of America.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR PRESIDENT ELECT DREW PELGER'S "POLAR BEAR PLUNGE"
Well, true to his word, President Elect Drew Pelger is ready to take the plunge...a "polar bear plunge", that is! Per your suggestions, PE Drew accepted the 'plunge' as his 'personal challenge' to encourage support for this year's Charitable Fund drive!

Since you Canton Rotarians generously supported his Charitable Fund drive (see story above), PE Drew has registered for the 17th Annual Polar Bear Jump, to be held at noon on February 29, 2020. Location is the Portage Lakes State Park Swim Beach at 5031 Manchester Rd., Akron, Ohio 44319.

PE Drew encourages all Canton Rotarians to come watch him 'jump in the lake', and freeze his, ahem, TOES off!

SUPPORT OUR INTREPID BOWLERS AND JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT!!

Rotarian Shawn Dougherty has put together an ALL-STAR TEAM of Canton Rotarians to compete in the annual Rotary Challenge at the Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon Saturday March 7th at Park Centre Lanes.

Not only will our team be competing as bowlers in this competition, but they will be competing against other teams to see who gets the MOST MONEY PLEDGED to support JA.

SHAWN AND HIS TEAM WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOUR SUPPORT! Shawn will have info at the upcoming meetings on how you can make a pledge or donation.

Canton Rotary and Junior Achievement have a relationship that goes back many years. JA brings business and professional people into our local classrooms to mentor young people on money, business, and what it takes to get and keep a job. JA's work ties in nicely with Rotary's emphasis on sharing vocational knowledge and supporting the education of our young people.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO MENTOR McKINLEY FRESHMEN FOR JA
The Rotary Club of Canton has a long history of supporting Junior Achievement in our area, with both financial support as well as volunteer support of our members. Since Rotary's goals include supporting our young people as well as sharing our vocations and skills, it is a good fit for our club.

JA of North Central Ohio is seeking volunteers to present their JA Career Success curriculum to freshmen at McKinley High School over a seven week period starting February 18th.

JA Career Success teaches young people some of the 'soft skills' and personal skills needed to get and keep a job, particularly the Four C's: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity. Here's is a link to a description of this program:

Here's the schedule:

Teacher: Mr. Dave

8:31am- 12:11pm (3 classes total)-  (2/18, 2/25, 3/3, 3/10, 3/17,3/24, 3/31).

12:47pm-2:35pm  (3 classes total) - (2/18, 2/25, 3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3,24,  3/31).

Basically, one volunteer is needed in the morning and one in the afternoon on each of those dates to each teach 3 classes in succession. One 'session' of the curriculum will be taught each week.

I AM HOPING TO GET A 'TEAM' OF ROTARY VOLUNTEERS, who could possibly each take one or two of the sessions, rather than all seven dates, thus spreading the load, so to speak. Of course, if you're willing and able to cover the whole 7 week schedule, that would be great. You are also welcome to recruit your friends and co-workers to get involved.

JA's curriculum is designed to engage and educate young people, with group and individual activities and challenges. Volunteer training is also available.

If you have any interest, please contact me soon at rickt@kozmosgrille.com or 330-575-2870, or Brittney Wells at JA of North Central Ohio at brittney.wells@ja.org or 330-433-0063, ext 1.

DISTRICT GOVERNOR DAN MORGAN'S MONTHLY MESSAGE
On February 1st we will only have 105 days until
May 16th, 2020
District 6650 Conference

This assembly of clubs will be an event you will not want to miss. I am asking all club members, their spouses/partners, family, friends and neighbors to attend. This action-packed day will start at 9:30 AM and end at 8:30 PM. We are planning on 300 to 400 at our evening event. Save the date….. May 16th at the Kent Conference Center in Jackson Township. Your Co-chairs, Greg Brokaw from Jackson and Rich Tirpak from Plain, are working tirelessly toward building an event you do not want to miss. We are still looking for that special Corporate Sponsor for this event. They will be featured throughout the event and have their company information highlighted to all 1772 members. We also still have other opportunities for Businesses, Clubs, and Rotarians to show your financial support. Please contact Rich or Greg or Tiffany Rockstroh with possible supporters.

DGE Linda Henderson, from East Liverpool, has just finished her International Assembly Training in San Diego, California. She has, along with 4 other District Governor Elects in Ohio, been working for the past 10 months on the All Ohio PETS Training Program. I have been sitting in on the sessions and this will be another good AOP. DO NOT MISS IT, President Elects! I am excited and you should be as well!

You will find Linda to be very hard working, caring and compassionate as she fulfills her role as DG. Then comes the current Mayor of North Canton, Ohio and our DGE in 2020, Steve Wilder. You will find him to be a real uplifting and hardworking DG.

Last but not least, get to know Michelle Mullaly from the Canton Rotary and the Canton Symphony Orchestra. Michelle is working hard to learn as much as possible and to carry our District successfully into the future.

Vicky and I continue to be amazed at what you all are doing and the impact you have on your community. How about the Minerva Club having a community appreciation dinner for 1000 to 1500 people? They will be honoring first responders, Military and Veterans. Vicky and I are honored to be included. How about that North Canton Club? On April 16 they will be giving out 24 Paul Harris awards. Can you imagine that?

Let me conclude by reminding you that February is Peace Building and World Conflict Resolution month. Please go to My Rotary and read about Peace Conflict and Resolution. If you are like Vicky and me, you will be deeply touched. You will read heart wrenching stories and you feel proud to be of Rotary.

You all are amazing and make such an incredible difference in our world. I thank you and want you to know that the rest of the world counts on you each and every day. We know you will continue to be the ones who step up and make sacrifices so that each and every one of us can live a peaceful, healthful and productive life.

Thank you for your relentless commitment,

Dan Morgan
DG
