Ending polio: Rotary members have played a key role in bringing the world to the brink of polio eradication. Their efforts have not only ended polio in 122 countries but also created a system for tackling myriad other health priorities, such as Ebola.
Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for over 30 years, and our goal of ridding the earth of this disease is in sight. We started in 1979 with vaccinations for 6 million children in the Philippines. Today, Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan are the only countries where polio remains endemic.
Please click on this LINK to read a very informative story regarding the efforts to eradicate Polio from the World and why continued funding is needed.
Pledge forms will be made available on October 5th.
On October 19th we will have a live auction for the bottle of wine donated by District Governor Scott Schulick. Proceeds from this auction will go directly to Rotary International for the benefit of End Polio Now.
One of my most important duties as President-Elect is to lead our annual Canton Rotary Charitable Fund drive. Our goal for this year is $14,000 in contributions. Before I ask you to reach in and give, I’d like to give you a little perspective on the importance of the Charitable Fund to our club.
Our club has two, distinct “entities” that comprise our organization: (1) the Rotary Club of Canton and (2) the Canton Rotary Charitable Fund. The club portion funds our operations and is the engine that provides our weekly meetings, community outreach, district relations, and international pursuits. This part of the club is primarily funded by our dues and meal payments.
The Canton Rotary Charitable Fund (CRCF) is the nonprofit portion of our organization. It is recognized as being tax-exempt by the virtue of the charitable programs we undertake… and most of you know there are many! Through the year we provide important funding for community service including: Community Cares, Interact, the Scouts, Student Scholarships, the Philomatheon Society, Junior Achievement, the Family Military Center at Pegasus Farm, and “Pack the Bus”, to name just a few.
Roughly a third of our annual income for the CRCF comes from the individual contributions of our Rotarians. Over the next month or so, I will be asking you to keep our community service activities alive and well by making your contribution. We have many ways for you to give, including checks or credit card payments. We can also provide an option for those of you receiving Required Minimum Distributions to avoid income taxes through your gift!
More details to come this Friday. I appreciate your consideration of this vital goal.
**This event has been moved from Skyland Pines Banquet Center to a fellow Rotarians home. When registering, please ask for location and directions.

Your gift will certainly have a positive impact on our community. Thank you again for your support as we work to promote wellness and recovery for all."
At the weekly meeting on September 28, 2018, President Michelle Mullaly welcomed the 49 members and 1 guest to the meeting. President Michelle announced everyone would be receiving chocolate chip ice cream in honor of Dale Holwick who would have celebrated his 93rd birthday on September 24th.
Rotarian Becky Clark gave the Invocation.
Congratulations to Rotarian Bruce Schorsten for having the winning 50/50 ticket! Bruce took home $40.00 from the drawing.
President Michelle then presented a $5,000 check from the Rotary Club of Canton's Endowment Fund to Tom Thompson, Executive Director for JRC Learning Center.
With this meeting being a fellowship meeting, President Michelle took the opportunity to have members spend some of the time as a "working" meeting. She asked each table to discuss and provide ideas on ways to bring in new members as well as how to better diversify the club as far as ethnicity and gender.
President Michelle took a moment to introduce and thank the individual who prepares our weekly meeting lunches, Ron Darrah. Ron works on a volunteer basis, as do the many other men and women from the church. Ron received a round of applause from the members to thank him for his hard work and the delicious meals he creates for us each and every week.
The meeting concluded with the President announcing next week's speaker as Mike Trabert, aka Mr. Ballpark, speaking on "Take Me out to the Ballpark". **This meeting will start PROMPTLY at noon due to a variety of items to be addressed prior to the speaker's presentation.
