MARK BUTTERWORTH, COO OF COMMQUEST, TO SPEAK FRIDAY

Mark is a lifelong resident of Stark County.  After graduating from Lake High School, Mark attended Walsh University and earned his B.A. in Accounting.  He worked for 14 years at the Pro Football Hall of Fame and then became the Executive Director of the Herbert W. Hoover Foundation for 11 years.  Most recently, Mark was hired at CommQuest Services in 2018 and currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer, overseeing 435 employees, 19 buildings across 14 locations, and services for over 20,000 clients annually.

Mark earned an MBA – Management from Malone University.  He is married to Dr. Elizabeth Russ, a Radiologist at Mercy Medical Center.  He has two children, Andrew & Alivia.  The family also has two dogs, a rescue Lab (Roxy) and a Portuguese Water Dog (Tallulah).  He just completed his third year as an NFL Replay official (and his 21st season in the NFL Replay Booth) and is also a Replay Official in the XFL.  Mark is a huge Springsteen fan and a Delta/Marriott travel warrior.

Mark serves on the Walsh University Advisory Board, the Pro Football Hall of Fame Advisory Board, and the Endocrinology Leadership Team at Akron Children’s Hospital.

HERE ARE THE CANDIDATES FOR THE 2020-2021 BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Board of Directors has nominated the following Rotarians for possible election to the Board for the term starting in the next Rotary year. The candidates are Jon Adland, Wilbur Allen, Paul Hervey and David Roberts.  Election of the Board members for the next Rotary year will be held at the February 28, 2020, meeting.
 
The officers for the 2020-2021 Rotary year are:  President - Drew Pelger;  President Elect - Mark Clendenin;  Vice President - Julia Dick; Treasurer - Tom Clevenger;  Secretary - Paula Mastroianni;  Assistant Secretary - Bruce Hale;  Sergeant-at-Arms - Robert K. Matthews; Parliamentarian - Bob Pattison; Assistant Parliamentarian - Dave Ewing.
 
JON ADLAND
Jon Adland --  Recently retired as Rabbi of Temple Israel. College & Major: Washington University in St. Louis, Jewish Studies and Psychology. Jon has been a member of Canton Rotary for 7 years. His Rotary involvement  consists of chairman of the Invocation committee and chairman of the Domestic Violence Center project. Other Board Directorships/Offices held: Board member of Jobs and Family Services, Canton; Chair of Board of Trustees of Thanksgiving Baskets, Downtown Canton; Board member of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio; Chair of Clergy Advisory Board of Planned Parenthood Federation of America; President, Planned Parenthood of the Bluegrass; served on the United Way Boards in Lexington, KY and here in Canton; President, Great Lakes Ohio Valley of Reform Rabbis; Central Conference of American Rabbis Executive Committee; Gleaners Food Bank Board member; President of the Race and Cultural Relations Leadership Network, Indianapolis; plus many other community service positions.
 
 
WILBUR ALLEN
Wilbur Allen -- Pastor at All Saints Temple; Mount Union - BA in Accounting, and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary - M. Div.; Wilbur has been a member of Canton Rotary for the past nine months. Wilbur has served as a Rotary volunteer for the Golf Outing and Oktoberfest. Other Board Directorships/Offices held: Canton City Board of Education; Board Member - Coming Together Stark County.
 
 
 
 
 
PAUL HERVEY
Paul Hervey -- Self employed attorney - formerly with Day Ketterer. College & Major: Franklin and Marshall College, BA in Government and Economics; Case Western Reserve University, JD. Paul has been a member of Canton Rotary for one year. Rotary involvement: Volunteer, Oktoberfest; committee member, Military Families Resource Center. Other Board Directorships/Offices held: currently Treasurer, Canton Jewish Community Federation; founder and president, Perry Youth Basketball; founder, Perry Chess Club; member, Finance, Publications, and Family Law committees of the Stark County Bar Association. Previous Board involvement: Board of Governors, Ohio State Bar Association; President, Tuscarawas County Bar Association; President and Treasurer, Temple Israel Brotherhood; Treasurer, Temple Israel.
 
 
DAVID ROBERTS
David Roberts -- Currently serves as Vice President - Senior Relations Manager for Farmers National Bank. College & Major: Kent State BBA - Finance; then the University of Akron - MBA Finance. David has been a member of the following Rotary Clubs: Lake Township from 1991-93; Canton Rotary from 1993-2007; Rotary Club of Dover from 2009-2011; back to the Rotary Club of Canton for the past 8 years. David's Canton Rotary involvement consists of the Philomatheon Society Annual Picnic; Salvation Army Holiday Kettles; Endowment Fund Committee; tutored in volunteerism by Canton Rotarian Gary Zink, with "Guns off the Street". David is a Paul Harris Fellow. David was a Rotary Exchange Student in 1977 from Rhodesia (nka Zimbabwe), living with Canton Rotarian Don Coen (deceased) and his family.  David is currently the Secretary of the Beacon Charitable Pharmacy and is on the Board of Canton Ballet.

CHARITABLE FUND DRIVE APPROACHING GOAL!!
President Elect Drew Pelger set his Charitable Fund Drive goal at $12,000...and he's ALMOST THERE!! Thanks to your generosity, he has raised $9,798.00 of his goal.
 
To help Drew hit his number, an anonymous Rotarian has graciously offered to match any donations, up to a total of $1000.00 (that's would be $2,000 to the Fund), from now to February 29th.  To date, $600 of the $1000 has been donated.
 
President Elect Drew and his daughter, Brynn, will be doing the "Polar Bear Plunge" on February 29th (see info below), so if you have not already made your Charitable Fund donation, or if you care to donate a little bit more, please consider doing so prior to February 29th to take advantage of the matching donation!!

MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR PRESIDENT ELECT DREW PELGER'S "POLAR BEAR PLUNGE"
Well, true to his word, President Elect Drew Pelger is ready to take the plunge...a "polar bear plunge", that is! Per your suggestions, PE Drew accepted the 'plunge' as his 'personal challenge' to encourage support for this year's Charitable Fund drive goal set at $12,000! 
 
Since Canton Rotarians generously supported his Charitable Fund drive, a grand total has been collected to date of $10,393.00!! PE Drew has registered for the 17th Annual Polar Bear Jump, to be held at TWO P.M. on February 29, 2020. Location is the Portage Lakes State Park Swim Beach at 5031 Manchester Rd., Akron, Ohio 44319. 
 
PE Drew encourages all Canton Rotarians to come watch him 'jump in the lake', and freeze his, ahem, TOES off!

Rotarian Shawn Dougherty has put together an ALL-STAR TEAM of Canton Rotarians to compete in the annual Rotary Challenge at the Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon Saturday March 7th at Park Centre Lanes: Shawn, Bruce Schorsten, James Boggs, Drew Pelger, President Mark Rojek, and Jim Thomas.
 
Our team will be competing to raise the most money for JA (besides showing off their bowling 'skills'!)

Canton Rotary and Junior Achievement have a relationship that goes back many years. JA's mission ties in nicely with Rotary's emphasis on sharing vocational knowledge and supporting the education of our young people.

WEEKLY MEETING NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
During the February 7, 2020 meeting, President Mark Rojek welcomed the 46 members and 8 guests to the meeting. President Mark asked anyone celebrating a February birthday to please stand and be recognized.
 
The Invocation was given by Rotarian Sam Shaheen.
 
Thank you to the Greeters/Attendance for their service during the meeting: Greeters- Kurt Goodenberger, Bill Liber, and Sam Shaheen; Attendance - Vice President Mark Clendenin.
 
Congratulations to Rotarian Jon Adland for having the winning 50/50 ticket worth $40.00.
 
Club Secretary Julia Dick welcomed the following guests:  Sarah Biltz (speaker); Matt Specht (North Canton Rotarian/guest of Speaker); Chuck Hoover (guest of Lynn Hamilton); Steven McGarrity and Maria Duvuvuei (guests of Club/Endowment Fund recipient representatives); Courtland Faulkner and Tim Haverstock (guests of Steve Fettman); Mitch Baxter (guest of President Mark Rojek).
 
The Rotary Club of Canton's Endowment Fund committee has selected five non-profit organizations to be recipients of the Endowment Fund's annual disbursement for the 2019-2020 year. President Mark and PP Curt Werren, Chair of Endowment Fund, introduced the third of the five disbursement recipients: Steven McGarrity and Maria Duvuvuei, representing the non-profit organization "Community Legal Aid Services, Inc.". They were presented with a check in the amount of $5,000.00. Community Legal Aid Services, Inc. believes that all individuals, including those who are impoverished, should have the opportunity to control, improve, and enrich their lives and community. Through legal advocacy, they transform the lives of those in poverty to increase opportunities, fairness, and stability, for a stronger community and justice for all.
 
Past President Amanda Tietze took to the podium to share with the members her experiences with the Rotary Scouts during several holiday programs at various Canton City Schools.
 
 
Vice President Mark Clendenin welcomed the speaker for the meeting, Sarah Biltz, from The Buckeye Council.
 
 
 
 
President Mark concluded the meeting with the following announcement: next week's speaker will be Mark Butterworth, COO of CommQuest.
